Blogging in the classroom

The sixth grade class in which I am completing my internship often uses blogs. We use them to discuss the books they are reading and to share news about the class. Originally, we used a website that allowed the teacher to manage all of the blogs and passwords for a group of users. We found it to be very difficult and have decided to use the blog feature of blackboard. The kids love blogging. They sometimes do have difficulty getting access to computers though so we have to work a lot of computer lab time into our week.

  1. I'm pleased to read that you will be able to share your classroom blogging experiences with us. What are your impressions of the students' reactions to blogging? What do they like/dislike about it? Have you encountered any problems with blogging?

  2. My students love blogging and they never complain about having to do a blog entry. Currently, the only problems we've had with blogging is parental concerns about their students safety and having just anyone access their work. We have allayed their fears by providing students with a blog location that is restricted to just those that are in the class.
